Turning water to medium or low would also be a last resort. I would recommend if you are having performance issues, turn view distance to a lower setting, and also turn foliage to low. I found that with my 1080 gtx, epic settings would worked ok.
I would recommed using teleport, it solved any nausea I had. A version is still set to launch at some point for SteamVR headsets.I played through start to finish in VR.
